Treatment on a personal level

Everybody has different individual needs, personal situations, and each clinical condition and each person requires an approach tailored to the needs of the person and the person's problem. Some individuals need more of one type of therapy and another may need another type. The therapies are presented with discussion and agreement between the person and Dr. Hutchison. The therapies offered are shown scientifically to be effective, but no guarantee can be offered to any individual.

Education

Born and raised in Winnipeg MB, I was educated in both Winnipeg and Ottawa. I attended high school in Winnipeg, and received my B.A. and M.A. in psychology from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. I later studied at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Ottawa where I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1984.

Experience

I am a clinical psychologist with over 35 years of experience. I have worked in acute psychiatric units of general hospitals, in medical units within general hospitals, in community mental health settings, in Employee Assistance settings, in rehabilitation settings, in correctional settings, in social agencies and in private practice. I was Head of Psychology at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg from 1991 to 2009. Prior to this I was a psychologist at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta between 1978 and 1991. I began a part-time private practice in Edmonton in 1985, which I continued until moving back to my native Winnipeg in 1991, where I continued this part-time private practice until expanding it to full-time in 2009.

I left Winnipeg in the fall of 2014 and moved back to Ottawa for personal and family reasons, where I have resumed this part-time private practice in Clinical Psychology on Kent St.
